    Introduction
The Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992 cover a wide range of basic health, safety and welfare issues and apply to most workplaces (with the exception of those workplaces involving construction work on construction sites, those in or on a ship, or those below ground at a mine).

The Regulations expand on the duties of the 74 Act and are intended to protect the health and safety of everyone in the workplace, and ensure that adequate welfare facilities are provided for people at work. It is focussed more widely on the workplace as a facillity rather than the working activity itself where provision for good working environment, heating, lighting, ventilation, activity ergonomics and very importantly consideration of personnel requirements including those with varying or limited abilities and disabilities is mandatory.
